This is sort of requirement doc.
Indian music is different compared to what english/western music is. Not just the music but the meta about music and music industry is equally interesting. Commercial music is primarily movie centric. Music that does not belong to movies(OST) is often called as non-filmi or private album or even just an album.
Information, the data that usually goes into tag like id3, about Indian music is very different as well. For example, Artist and Album Artist is generally sufficient for wester music but for Indian music, singer, composer and lyricist are of utmost importance.
I am looking for a music server and/or music player for as long as I am alive that satisfies these requirements
Must have Link to heading
- Support large music collection
- Comma separated tag fields
- Id3 tag allows multiple artists separated by a special character but most of the files I have are comma separated.
- Multiple genre per track. One genre per track is too restrictive.
- Web client. Android client.
- Searchable in more than one way. Search like “S.D. Burman”, “singer: S.D. Burman”, “composer: S.D. Burman” should all return different sets of results.
- Client should show extended tags including
- Artist implying singer
- Composer/Music director
- Lyricist
- Genre
- Year
- Album Artist
- Disk #
- Track #
- Title
- Album
- Category
- Multiple user profile
- Playlists
- Down sampling
Good to have Link to heading
- Clickable artist names, year, genre etc. fields in info view
- Clicking should search for the songs from that artist.
- Ability to map from multiple names to a single artist.
- Say an artist goes by different names at different points in time. The server should have the ability to map different names to one person.
- Phonetic searching
- Ye ishk hai, ye ishq hai should result in “yeah ishq hai” song.
- Smart playlist
- Play random songs from this year, decade, artist
Maybe Link to heading
- Play songs of an actor, director
- Offline storing songs
- Gapless playback
